piece of
history
The Herengracht in Amsterdam was built from 1612 onwards. The section between Leidsegracht and Binnen Amstel is called the “Gouden Bocht” – the most distinguished part of the Herengracht.
Architectural harmony
Here, many houses were occupied by regents, mayors and merchants. Due to the unity of dimensions and proportions, Amsterdam’s canal houses form a harmonious whole, even though they were built as individual structures. This is one of the reasons why Amsterdam’s ring of canals forms a unique and recognisable unit.
beautifully preserved
Many of the architectural remnants from that time – like the classical facades, landings, marble corridors, plastered ceilings, painted wallpaper, baroque gardens with statues and garden houses – are still visible today and invite you on a journey back in time to the 17th century.
